Frances Burgin, Burrell’s Grandmother a full blooded Cherokee Indian from Catawba County; passed along to her decedents some great recipes! Burrell’s mother and father operated a café in Hickory North Carolina where barbecue is a household tradition. What I Fred Burrell remembers most fondly was the moment at the Rocks Estate in Ivy Virginia when my Uncle Bernard lit the grill. When the charcoals having turned a bright red, Ira M. Shea (Grill Master) tossed on some well-aged Black Angus 2 inch Porthouse Steaks; after grilling on each side Burrell could see his Uncle’s mouth begin to water as he sampled a culinary treat of perfection. Then it was Burrell’s turn to sample the essence of this culinary treat; at that very moment even at a young age I (Fred Burrell) was hooked on Barbecuing. I new at that very moment that I (Fred Burrell) wanted to become a Grill Master! Some thirty years have now passed, and Burrell’s mission is to continue to present to our customers these same culinary experiences. We don’t need to ask someone how do it. We at Burrell’s pass this tradition down to all our family members. As well as teach this to our employee’s. Fred himself was born with this passion, and grew up around it all his life.
“Our customers are like Family and from the bottom of our families heart we sincerely thank you for all of the many years of support!”
